agn2txt

If you download the development release package of my tools, you will find a new tool in there from today. I called it agn2txt and it dumps the content of an autogen AGN file to a readable text file. It is a tool that I used which learning more about the autogen file format. I have included it, because I thought it might be useful for others as well.

I have plans to later also add a txt2agn tool that can do the reverse step, so that you can make minor changes to the autogen by editing the TXT file. But I haven’t come to that yet, as I first want to do some more experimentation with making autogen from GIS vector data.

    This works only with FSX?

Yes, it is for FSX only at the moment. I would have to check how different the FS2004 autogen format is and if I can add support for that as well.

    I have some questions:
    1. If I am look to x,y numbers in agn wiki for GBRL, where is information, that numbers must be in range -0.5 to 0.5. In your txt file these numbers are in range -1 to 1. Which range is right?
    2. Annotator ignore all buildings after building with x or y offset less then 0.001. Can I filtering these shp objects in ScenProc?
    3. I am working on GUI for easy use of you ScenProc, Agn2txt, Txt2agn and with add for automatic merging of agnfiles, modified agn calculator and quick graphical preview of agn file (without Annotator). In the end I want to have GUI for chain of actions from scenery bmp to bgl and from shp to agn. Can I use calling of your routines in my GUI (or must make my own)?

    Thank you

    Hi,

    1. A range of -1 to 1 sounds weird. It is either 0 to 1, or -0.5 to 0.5. But that is for the placement only. The second set of numbers are a direction vector, so that would be between -1 and 1.

    2. I would have to check if that can be done at the moment. I think there should be a length and width attribute you can use in the filter. Be aware though that Annotator might show things different than FSX. So you might want to check if FSX does show them.

    3. What kind of methods would you like to call from your GUI? I have no problem is you use part of my tools, but be aware that scenProc is still in an early beta stage, so things might change.

Btw, if you want to further discuss some of these things it might be easier to do so on the FSDeveloper forum or by email.
